Carmanah Technologies Corp has been recognized as British Columbia’s Exporter of the Year at the 2007 BC Export Awards.  Along with the Exporter of the Year, this year’s Awards saw winners in eight different categories, as well as two individual achievement awards: International Business Studies Award and the Leadership Award. This year’s Leadership Award, chosen for contributions to exporting in B.C. within their industry or field of expertise, recognizes the achievements of Mossadiq S. Umedaly, Chairman of Xantrex Technology Inc.

The winners were announced at a gala luncheon ceremony, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Co-hosted by Canadian Manufactures & Exporters and the Ministry of Economic Development, the sold out luncheon was attended by leaders from across the Province’s business community.

“British Columbia continues to be a global leader in trade and export. The competition for Exporter of the Year, and support from the business community at these awards are testament to our success in creating a thriving export economy” said Colin Hansen, Minister of Economic Development. “B.C.'s exporters play a large role in our Pacific Leadership Agenda by continuing to strengthen both our economy and our relationships with partners in the Asia Pacific region, and all over the world."

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the prestigious award ceremony, celebrating the valuable role that the export industry plays in the B.C. Economy. The export industry has developed dramatically over the past 25 years, and the history of winners reflects the changes in how and where exporters are doing business.

“We have seen a dramatic shift in the products being exported, from tangible products to information services,” said Werner Knittel, vice president, B.C. Division Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME). “Exporters recognized by BC Export Awards over the last 25 years have lead expansion into new markets. While trade with Asia is steadily increasing, new markets such as Brazil and South Africa are beginning to play an important role in our trade and export relationships.”

Werner added, ”All the winners and nominees of the 2007 BC Export Awards have made a tremendous contribution to our economy, and are recognized today for their entrepreneurialism and commitment.
