A message from Peter Jeffrey, Vice President, CME British Columbia
|
We are pleased to partner with the Government of British Columbia and the sponsors of the BC Export Awards in acknowledging our leading exporters. Every year we receive upwards of 400 nominations and 200 applications from which the Top 25 Finalists are selected. This year we set a new record receiving over 500 nominations.
The Top 25 highlight the province's expertise and demonstrate the importance of BC's role in global trade.
With our continuing economic challenges, the importance of BC's manufacturing and exporting sector continues to undergo very significant changes to prepare for the economic recovery that is upon us. We have already seen exports to the US drop to 46% of total exports in 2010 with most of the market share going to Pacific Rim countries. Export development and diversification by our industries, supported by continued infrastructure investment by government, is critical to a prosperous and sustainable future.

In the recent past, driven primarily by changes in world markets and customer expectations, members of the BC Division of the Canadian Manufacturers and exporters have, and continue to, develop leading edge products, technologies and services that not only serve customers here and throughout Canada, but the world over.
CME's BC Division is working hard to support the success of this sector. We must be doing something right, as we have doubled our membership, which we attributed to the delivery of membership value. With a very active Board, membership and partners, we offer a very full program of events, services and funded programs that really do impact the "bottom line".
Our strategic focus areas include:
- Improved productivity/competitiveness and product innovation
- Business development; in the US and globally
- Human Resource development
- Energy and the Environment
We deliver programs that provide:
- Effective advocacy
- Market/business intelligence
- Business development opportunities
- Best practices benchmarking
